What is it?
“This is How You Say My Name” provides an easy way for students to record themselves saying their names in my.harvard to ensure that all faculty, teaching assistants, and advisors have the opportunity to hear the correct pronunciation of students’ names before meeting them. This project was funded by the President’s Administrative Innovation Fund (PAIF) in 2018 and started with Harvard college students but is expanding to other schools.
What goal(s) does it connect to?
Goal 2: Academic, Professional, and Social Integration
Why is it important?
The first engagement in any new interaction is learning someone’s name, which shows the first sign of mutual respect and care for the other person. Learning students’ names correctly is a minor change but will make lasting effects on the culture and community of any classroom.
