Harvard Divinity Noon Service

Goal 3 & Goal 4

What is it?

Each week Harvard Divinity School devotes its Noon Service to a different religious or other group within the school to host a service, providing broad exposure to multiple traditions and practices.

What goal(s) does it connect to?

Goal 3 Union of Academic Freedom and a Culture of Mutual Respect and Concern

Goal 3.1Trust-Building

Goal 4 Inclusive Values, Symbols, and Spaces

Goal 4.1 Community

Why is it important?

This practice is a good example of simultaneously building a community ritual that brings people together while also building flexibility into the ritual such that different subsets of the community can express their particular commitments through that same community ritual. A focus on community is woven together with a focus on diversity.
