Teresita Fernández Public Art Installation in the Yard

Goal 4

What is it?

“Autumn (…Nothing Personal): Teresita Fernández Public Art Installation” was a public art installation featured in the Harvard Yard in the fall of 2018. Fernandez was inspired by James Baldwin’s text “Nothing Personal” to provide a space for unscripted conversation and as a physical site people could observe. Additionally, Fernandez chose mediums and materials that have “complicated histories, often tied to colonialism.”

What goal(s) does it connect to?

Goal 4: Inclusive Values, Spaces, and Symbols

  • Goal 4.1: Community
  • Goal 4.2: Present and Past in Proportion

Why is it important?

This art installation not only was there as a stand-alone piece of art but also hosted many events, readings and performances, all with the goal of fostering conversation and engagement with the Harvard and Cambridge Community about topics that can be difficult to discuss.
